Why do people care about linux distros so much? It's so annoying just use whatever you want, no one cares.
>>35880
people will always argue about tier lists. it's human nature.
>>35880
same reason why people argue about food or mattresses. they rely on it every day of their life and are bound to develop some sort of opinions and tastes. it's one of those things where a quick choice can potentially have a significant impact on your life for several or many years, and people want to feel like they made the right one. though in practice most linux distributions typically offer a similar experience so it's mostly just for fun
Why, MacOS of course
>>35880
It's a fashion statement, anon.

Based taste.

thank you anon <3
I still need to make the switch on my main PC, which is running Manjaro. I've been using it on my laptop for a while, and I love it so much
Ahhh man, I just really don't get the point of Endeavour. I've used Arch for years and years, and a friend of mine IRL really advocated Endeavour to me. So I downloaded, and, like... I guess it's fine? But it's basically a completely preconfigured system. Isn't avoiding that and making a system with the components you *need* the whole point of Arch?
I know some people just want access to the AUR, which is valid, but in that case, why not use Manjaro? It's a way more mature project than Endeavour and isn't much more/less sus in terms of the people that run it.
I'm seriously not trying to be a "grrr you use linux my way or not at all person", it's just this specific case that confuses me. When I want a "just works" system, I stay away from Arch and go for Debian.

There are a lot of different distros, and everyone that works on them has some kind of strong goal in mind for their system-- like, to make a linux distro, you have to say, "this idea of computing means so much to me that I'll contribute hundreds of hours of my and others' effort to it". So the only result is that the people that use your system will generally be really passionate about it too.
The problem isn't really talking about distros at all. Linux is having fun with your computer at its core, and distros are one way to facilitate that. The problem is when people turn their nose up at people in instances that don't actually have any mal effect.
For the most part it's good fun and genuine effort on the part of the developers. I've grown up using linux and it's almost always been a good time.

>why not use Manjaro?
Because the Manjaro default install has really gone down the shitter lately, with regards to stability and usability
Arch (I use it BTW)
I'm using openSUSE tumbleweed but I'm planning on switching back to Fedora once 38 beta is officially released; the 37 kernel is too old to run on my laptop and i don't know how to fix that but rawhide is too slow due to having a bunch of kernel debugging options enabled (and I don't know how to fix that). I'm considering using Manjaro, but I've heard some bad things despite how pretty their GNOME looks
Currently on OpenSuse Tumbleweed but there are several slight pain points that make me want to go back to BSD or a more old fashioned Linux distro, I'll probably install Slackware on a ZFS root in a few weeks

Currently using MX Linux. Has been nice and comfy over the past year I've been using it.
I'm playing around with some other distros via VM, eventually intending to go through a LFS install.
am i allowed to say alpine or is it gnu/linux only
